Every non-profit has a story to tell. Finding the right way to tell that story, however, can be a challenge.
Here are some organizations that have done an outstanding job at storytelling through video. Some of them are being considered for this year’s DoGooder Nonprofit Video Awards.
Splash and the Gonodaya school
In this incredibly powerful video, Splash shows how, in a single day, they were able to transform the drinking water for children at a school in Kathmandu, Nepal. By taking us into the field, and showing us the water before and after, you come away with the feeling that this organization is the really making a difference!
Evict Them in Five Easy Steps
This superb animation by WITNESS takes an interesting spin. By pretending to advocate for the evictors, they show just how easy it is to evict people from their homes, and successfully build awareness about the injustice of forced evictions.
Sight restored in the blink of an eye
This video by The Fred Hollows Foundation is outstanding. They manage to show in just a few minutes what they do and why it is so important. This is one of those cases where video was really the only way to tell the story, because you really have to see it to believe it!
In this video by Love146, co-founder and president Rob Morris tells the heart-wrenching story of how the organization came to be. Using just a few visual effects, and telling the story of one girl (#146), they manage to bring you into the horrible world of child sex slavery and exploitation. By doing so, they not only raise awareness, but compel you to do something to help.
Be a Whistleblower for Peace
Without saying a word, this video by Falling Whistles tells the story of young boys sent to war in Congo. It’s powerful, raises awareness, and tells us exactly what we can do to help.
What is the Office of Letters and Light?
Finally, this cute, quirky video by The Office of Letters and Light does an incredibly good job at using imagery to explain what they do, their programs, and the extent of their reach. They also offer a very effective call to action at the end – to donate to help keep it going!
