5 Fundraising Trends for 2019
1. Live Streaming
The use of live video platforms is expected to experience tremendous growth in the coming months and years. Many companies are using live streaming to launch new products, and nonprofits are using it to raise money! Organizations like Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Direct Life, No Barriers Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital have shown us how useful live video platforms can be to raise large sums of money.
Platforms like Facebook Live, Snapchat, Periscope, and Twitch are skyrocketing in popularity. Twitch is a live video streaming platform that is often used for fundraising events because it gets millions of viewers a day!
2. Artificial Intelligence
The global management consulting company, Accenture, has indicated that four out of five business executives believe that artificial intelligence will work alongside their human workers within the next 18 to 24 months.
Chatbots that use AI to interact through a chat interface like messenger, can help nonprofits automate tasks, and gather more data on prospects. Chatbot can also deal with memberships, donations, and gather and give out information about programs and services. Chatbots can also create a very personal donor experience by providing personal messages that are based on the actual, real-time behaviour of the donor or prospect.
Despite what some people might think, email is not dead. In fact, a study conducted by Dunham & Company, an Australian based organizational development firm focusing on nonprofits, found that the percentage of donors motivated to give online via email has jumped 40% since 2015. The key is to make your emails much more visual than they were in the past. Using email to tell stories of impact, using compelling subject lines, having a clear call-to-action, as well as segmenting your audience according to demographics are all part of a good email strategy.
4. Corporate Giving
People want to work for and buy from companies that make a contribution to society. This means companies are giving more, and nonprofits are turning more and more to corporate givers to boost their fundraising efforts. In 2019 expect to see corporate donation matching programs and sponsorships on the rise. Want to know how to secure a corporate sponsor? Here’s some tips. Partnering with a corporation means you expose your nonprofit to a whole new audience of potential donors and volunteers.
Nonprofits are doing more research than ever before prior to asking for support, because personal appeal works! They’re also designing projects around what they know will appeal to the bulk of their donor base, and they gather this knowledge from becoming familiar with where that donor base gathers information and interacts. When communicating with a diverse base, nonprofits are also taking special care to account for generational differences and other specific demographic data.
